Mark Ashley Miller, Harbour Master Sailing Challenge
February 18, 2025 @ 20:00 - 22:00
£5Sailing around the British Isles
After a varied career in the army (QDG), farming and e-commerce, Mark and his wife sold their business (The Present Finder) in 2018 and next day I bought a boat!
Like many sailors Mark had an ambition to sail around GB. He wanted to do it slowly and with a purpose, so he decided to attempt to visit every Harbour Master and raise some money for charity.
Mark has an RYA Day Skipper ticket and Yacht Master theory. Fiona and Mark live in Dorset near Sherborne.
Over five years, Mark sailed his yacht Good Dog, 9,000 miles around the British Isles. He visited 310 harbours and interviewed 256 Harbour Masters in The UK and Ireland. Mark met the modest, reliable men and women who keep our harbours open and our seaways safe and enjoyed listening to and recording their stories.
Having suffered from depression himself, Mark was to use the odyssey to raise £30,000 for The Seafarers’ Charity, a maritime charity which supports seafarers’ mental health.
His talk will describe the odyssey including the challenges he faced as he navigated into every harbour in the British Isles. He will also talk about how to make the most out of a circumnavigation of the British Isles. All proceeds of the talk are being donated to The Seafarers’ Charity.

All monies taken for this talk will be donated to the Seafarers Charity by Mark.
Don’t forget that, as it’s a Tuesday for the talk, there will be time for a meal before the talk.
